Almost all of us know that smoking is bad for health yet so many people smoke. Besides, it is also a waste of money.

Why people smoke?
One of the reasons is to feel the pleasure. When I ask my friends who smoke, they said that they actually enjoy it. Another reason is for social needs. Some people smoke because it is a part of their job. They need to entertain clients and friends.

I have even heard of doctors in some countries prescribes smoking to his patient for whatever reason. They will end up drowning themselves in depression and addiction.

What is smoking?
Smoking is defined as any way of consuming tobacco and this includes smoking cigarettes, cigars, pipe ... etc.

Passive smoking is breathing or inhaling other people's smoke. This happens when you surround yourself with smokers. Passive smokers are also called as second hand smokers.

Inhaling second had smoke is less harmful than smoke directly because the whole chunk of chemical don't go directly into your lungs. However, it is still harmful to your body.

When you inhale the smoke into your body, you are actually pumping in thousands and thousands of chemicals into your body. These chemicals are cancer causing and extremely harmful to our body.

In terms of mortality, statistics shows that non-smokers can live 10 years longer than smokers. Besides, smoking is responsible for 87% of lung cancer.

It's never too late to stop smoking. You have enormous benefits when you stop smoking. When you stop smoking, you are actually giving your lungs a chance to regenerate. Our lung cells regenerate quite regularly.

You have to quit smoking even though you are just a passive smoker. It will negatively affect your health especially to children. It increases the risk of suffering from respiratory disease such as bronchitis and pneumonia.

Studies show that if both of the parents in the family smoke, their children have 72% chances increase of respiratory illness. That is a huge increase, don't you think?

Children who are passive smokers may also suffer from middle ear infection, cardio disease and behavior problems. Smoking (or passive smoking) during pregnancy can cause low birth rate and sudden infant death syndrome. This is really scary.

Nicotine, a very popular component in the tobacco will affect certain part of your brain. This will influence your respiration, heart rate, memory and alertness.

Since smoking brings so much more harm than good, I hope you don't even think of start to smoke. If you are already a smoker, then I suggest you to quit today!
